Blue Cross Week 2018

This week we are celebrating Blue Cross Week 2018 at The Oxford Dog Blog.

Following the success of the event in 2017 Blue Cross Week returns from 1st to the 7th October 2018. This week animal lovers across the country are taking on challenges, hosting fundraising events, and getting involved with activities at their local Blue Cross centres. The money raised from this week will provide valuable support for sick, injured, and homeless pets.

In this blog post we take a look at some of the events taking place at the Oxfordshire Blue Cross centres this week.

What’s on at Blue Cross Rehoming Centre, Burford

Competitions Galore

Stop by the Burford Rehoming Centre and you will find plenty of competitions to enter. Each event will be announced on their Facebook page, so be sure to follow their Facebook page for more updates throughout the week.

The Burford Bark (dog walk) and Pawtastic Pawty

On Saturday the 6th of October the Burford Rehoming Centre is hosting The Burford Bark (dog walk) and Pawtastic Pawty.

Come along to the centre at 10am and join the 5km Burford Bark dog walk through the surrounding countryside then head back for a pawty. There will be tea and cake to refresh dogs and human alike.

Blue Cross are asking for £10 per dog to help cover some costs which includes a doggie bag full of goodies. Please email for more details on this event.

At the pawty:

  • Does your pooch need a bit of a face trim or nail clipping? Yatta Dog Spa will be at the Pawty on the 6th of October offering a few small pet grooming services!
  • Blue Cross Burford have lots of great prizes for the raffle for The Burford Bark and Pawtastic Pawty here’s just a few!

Dog First Aid Course

7th October, from 10-1.30

Become a qualified dog first aider with an accredited CPD qualification whilst raising money for Burford Blue Cross and helping more pets.

Tickets just £49.50, but there are only a few places remaining at the time of writing.

What’s on at Blue Cross Rehoming Centre, Lewknor

Virtual Pet show

Does your pet have what it takes? Are they a potential insta-star or viral meme in the making? Do they inspire and amaze?

Then why not enter them in Blue Cross Lewknor’s virtual pet show? The categories are:

  • best ‘if I fits I sits;
  • funniest pet picture;
  • best friends;
  • best rescue.

Entry is £2 per class donated via their Just Giving page.

Closing date is Friday 5th October.

Team Challenge

As part of Blue Cross Week, this coming weekend 8 brave team members will be spending the weekend sleeping in the kennels at Lewknor.

They will be putting on their animal onesies and bedding down for a comfy nights sleep. Don’t worry they will be provided with lots of food and enrichment during this period to keep them entertained!

This is to raise money and awareness for pets in need, so sponsor their challenge by visiting:

Blue Cross Lewknor Team Challenge

Dog Walk

Fancy a 6 km dog walk through the countryside? Then come and join Blue Cross Lewknor at 12.30pm on Sunday 7th.

Put on something blue and bring your £10 donation for an afternoon walk followed by refreshments at the centre to help celebrate Blue Cross Week. They are asking for a small £10 donation per dog and this includes your refreshments and doggy bag.

And if all of that wasn’t enough you can also raise money for the cause by popping into the Lewknor Blue Cross centre:

Apple Juice! – Raise a glass to raise funds with a bottle of Lewknor’s very own apple juice, picked on site by the team and pressed at pasture farm in Longwick.

Hand made treat jars! – These are available in reception and are catered for all species!

Barn Sale Bonanza! – On Sunday there will be a big barn sale with lots of goodies and bargains for everyone.
