Easy Banana and Peanut Butter Pupcakes

This is a quick and easy dog-friendly cupcake recipe, made with minimal ingredients; perfect for birthday pawties, gotcha days, or just as a weekend treat for very good dogs.

It was Buddy’s fourth birthday last week and of course this meant we had a birthday ‘pawty’. And because no party would be complete without cupcakes, I pulled together this really easy recipe for dog-friendly cake that uses only 8 ingredients that all could be found in an average kitchen cupboard.

Made with mostly mashed banana and peanut butter, with a cream cheese and peanut butter ‘icing’, these pup-cakes were a big hit with the dogs at the party. As the recipe makes 8 cakes, we were also able to put half in the freezer for another day.

Ingredients

For the pupcakes:

  • 1 medium egg
  • 3 tbsp peanut butter
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 100g plain flour (wheat flour)
  • 1 tsp milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder

For the ‘icing’:

  • 100g cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp peanut butter

Method

1 Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.

2 In a large bowl, mix the egg, peanut butter, and vegetable oil. Whisk until ingredients are combined and smooth.

3 Mash the bananas thoroughly and stir into the mixture until well mixed.

4 Fold in the flour & baking soda until you have a smooth mixture with a thick consistency.

5 Evenly divide your mixture into 8 paper cases (you want to fill them 1/3 of the way full). The pupcakes won’t rise much, so for bigger doggos you could also make fewer cakes 2/3 full.

6 Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and a knife can come out clean. Place the pupcakes on a cooling rack until cold.

7 For the icing, mix together the cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth (be careful not to over-mix or it will the mixture will separate). Spread the icing onto your cooked pupcakes.

8 Top with your dog’s favourite biscuit and serve. You can also store them in an airtight container or pop them in the freezer!
